GJ, ‘Dogs stay high in polls
Grand Junction kept a firm hold on its No. 1 ranking in the Denver Post Class 5A football poll.
The Tigers (3-0) received six first-place votes for the second consecutive week to remain the team to beat after a 50-0 victory over Class 4A Standley Lake last weekend. Grand Junction plays Friday night at Westminster.
Grandview (2-1) remained No. 2 in the 5A poll with three first-place votes. Pomona is No. 3, Mullen is No. 4 and Columbine is No. 5.
Montrose (4-0) moved up three spots to No. 6 in the Class 4A poll. The Indians play Friday at Pueblo West, which dropped out of the top 10 this week.
Palisade (3-0) overtook Cañon City (3-0) for the second spot in the Class 3A poll. The Bulldogs had three first-place votes and play at Glenwood Springs on Friday. The Demons dropped out of the top 10.
Vista Ridge (3-0) stayed at No. 1 with 14 first-place votes.
Rifle (3-0) joined the top 10 at No. 10 after its 16-0 victory over Class 2A Olathe. The Bears host Battle Mountain (3-0) at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Pirates (1-2) dropped three spots to No. 8 in the 2A poll. Aspen (2-1) is ranked seventh. Florence (4-0) has a firm grip on No. 1 after a second consecutive victory over a top-five team.
Hotchkiss (3-0) remained No. 2 in the Class 1A poll after its 44-20 victory over Aspen.
Norwood (3-0) is third in the Class A 8-man poll, following No. 1 Hoehne (3-0) and No. 2 Dayspring Christian (3-0).
