GJ’s Blair, Anna Lee finish fourth in marbles national tournament

Grand Junction’s Jon Blair came one game shy of the finals Thursday at the National Marbles Tournament in Wildwood, N.J.

Blair was tied for first place in his four-person semifinal pool until his final match of pool play, according to his coach, Leah Lee. The mibster who defeated Blair in a match that “came down to the last marble in the last game” went on to win the national title, Lee said.

Blair settled for fourth place in the boys division.

In the girls division, Anna Lee competed in Thursday’s semifinals but did not advance to the final and finished fourth overall.

Blair and Lee were joined at the national meet by two other Grand Valley mibsters: Sam Lee, who placed 11th in the boys field, and Katie Carozza, who took ninth in the girls division.

Leah Lee, mother of Anna and Sam, said her quartet of players practiced more this year and improved their games. Although the practices were good, Leah Lee said this year’s national meet showed them their practices “need to be even better.”
