Glenwood Springs blanks league rival Palisade in girls soccer
Palisade limited the Glenwood Springs High School girls soccer team to three goals, but it wasn’t enough Tuesday night in Glenwood Springs.
The Demons defeated Palisade 3-0 in a Western Slope League game.
It was the Demons’ sixth consecutive victory and fourth consecutive shutout victory.
The Demons (9-1, 8-0 WSL) had goals from three different players and took 22 shots.
Palisade (3-5-1, 3-2-1 WSL) was shut out for the first time this season.
Montrose 5, Delta 1: The Indians scored three goals late in the second half to win the non-league game in Delta.
Montrose took an early lead and defeated Delta 9-1 in a Class 4A nonleague game Tuesday in Delta.
Luis Perez delivered a bases-loaded, three-run double in the first inning for the Indians (7-6). Bryce Gaber pitched a complete game.
Nathan Trujillo took the loss for the Panthers (11-4).
Inclement weather postponed a doubleheader between Olathe and Basalt and Coal Ridge’s game at Rifle.
Rifle’s Taylor Walters shot an 81 to win the Rifle Invitational at Rifle Creek Golf Course.
Walters’ 81 helped the Bears to a first-place finish in the team scores with a 282.
Central finished second with a 304, led by Kiana Garcia’s 95. Kate Shuman shot a 98 for Palisade.
Hannah Englebrecht led Fruita Monument and Kaylee Chessani led Grand Junction, each with a 99.
Grand Junction swept Central 7-0 in a Southwestern League dual, but had to win two 10-point tiebreakers to do it.
Grand Junction’s Maddie Hayduk won one, 6-3, 1-6, 10-6, at No. 1 singles over Aimee Basinski. The Tigers’ No. 4 doubles team of Anne Hughes and Stephanie Wahlers rallied from one set down to win 4-6, 6-2, 11-9.
