Grand Junction in; Fruita out of 5A playoffs

Grand Junction received the No. 2 seed for the Class 5A state football playoffs and will host Chatfield (3-6) in the first round at a time and date to be announced this weekend.

The Tigers (9-0) dropped one spot in the CHSAA wildcard points after their victory over Durango on Friday night. Columbine (9-0) topped Grand Junction for the No. 1 seed.

Fruita Monument (4-5) finished 33rd in the wildcard points, one spot out of the playoffs. The Wildcats will host Heritage (3-6) in a non-playoff game this weekend.

Central (1-8) finished 46th in the wildcard points and will play its final game of the season at No. 45 Hinkley. The Warriors defeated Hinkley 48-23 earlier this season at Stocker Stadium.

Hotchkiss (9-0) received the No. 2 seed for the Class 1A state playoffs and will host Sargent (5-4) in the first round. The schools will determine the time and date. Burlington (9-0) received the top seed and Lutheran (9-0) is the No. 3 seed.
