Grand Junction lands six on all-league lacrosse team

The Grand Junction girls lacrosse team led the way on the 2013 All-Mountain League team with six selections.

The league champion Tigers had three first-team selections and three second-team selections. The Tigers’ Megan Gromke, Makenna Tuttle and Kacie Jay made the first team, and Halle Harrison, Beth Jennings and Kristina Sewell made the second team.

Fruita Monument, meanwhile, put two players on the first team — Alyssa Urban and Lindsey Burenheide — and one on the second team: Nicole Twardowski.

Grand Junction finished the season 11-0 in the eight-team Mountain League, while Fruita Monument was sixth at 4-7.

Sewell gets national honor

Kristina Sewell, a freshman at Grand Junction High School, has been selected a 2013 Brine National High School All-American and will represent the West Regional Team at the 2013 Brine National Lacrosse Classic in Boyds, Md.

The Brine National Lacrosse Classic will be June 30 to July 3, and it brings the top high school lacrosse players in the country to one venue, where regional teams will compete to become the national champion.
