In the clutch

Back-to-back doubles in the top of the 10th inning by Chad Spanberger and Todd Czingne put the Rockies ahead to stay, snapping a 6-6 tie after Great Falls had tied it in the bottom of the ninth on a solo home run from Anthony Villa. Javier Guevara gave the Rockies a two-run lead with an RBI single.

The 10th-inning performance from Grand Junction capped a 13-hit attack against the Voyagers, who had 11 hits. The Rockies’ offensive output was enough, though, and gave Grand Junction its seventh win in its past nine games.

At the plate

Four Rockies players, Pedro Gonzalez, Javier Guevarra, Jeff Moberg and Brett Stephens each had two hits on Sunday. Gonzalez and Stephens each hit a pair of doubles, with Stephens’ three RBI serving as a game-high.

Great Falls’ Tyler Frost, Villa, Franklin Reyes and Amado Nunez also had two hits apiece. Villa’s home run in the ninth was his sixth of the season. tying him with teammate Craig Dedelow and Grand Junction’s Casey Golden for third in the Poineer League. Ogden’s Luis Paz leads the league with nine home runs through Sunday.

In the field

Great Falls committed three errors which, including Saturday’s game, gave the Voyagers eight errors in their past two games. Unlike Saturday’s game when eight of Grand Junction’s 10 runs were unearned, only one Rockies run was unearned on Sunday.

On the mound

Jefry Valdez had the high and low pitching line for Grand Junction, getting the victory after Villa’s solo shot also gave him a blown save. He threw two innings and allowed one run with no walks and three strikeouts in two innings. Blake Battenfield (0-3) allowed two earned runs and four hits in his one relief inning for the Voyagers.
