Orem 13, Grand Junction 5
Monday at Brent Brown Ballpark
Grand Junction 5-10, Orem 10-5
On the mound
It was an ugly start for Jorge Oviedo (0-1) and the Rockies. Oviedo didn’t make it out of the first inning and gave up eight earned runs on six hits. The Rockies also committed two of their four errors in the first inning. The nine-run first inning by the Owlz made it a tough night for the Rockies.
Jan Carlos Lopez got the final out in the first, and was one of four relievers who pitched fairly well. Brandon Lambright took over in the fifth and pitched 1 2/3s innings, gave up three hits, no runs and struck out four. Michael Agis pitched the final inning and didn’t give up a hit.
At the plate
Grand Junction managed 10 hits in the game with Ramon Marcelino leading the way with three. Jeff Moberg hit his first home run of the year, a solo shot in the third inning. The Rockies scored three in the eighth with Hidekel Gonzalez getting a two-run single to key the inning. Alan Trejo added two RBI for the Rockies.
Shael Mendoza came into the game hitting .440 but went hitless in the game. The Rockies’ second baseman struggled in the field with three errors and he now has eight on the season.
The Rockies return to Suplizio Field today for a seven-game home stand. The Rockies will have the next four against Orem and then three games against Ogden. It will be Grand Junction’s first home game since June 24 when they opened the season with a six-game home stand, going 1-5. ... Grand Junction finished the nine-game road trip with a 4-5 record. Tonight’s Fourth of July game will, of course, feature fireworks after the game
