Grand Junction girls lacrosse team tops Eagle Valley

The weather conditions were far from ideal, but the Grand Junction High School girls lacrosse team found a way to win again.

The Tigers overcame a slow start in the freezing rain Wednesday in Gypsum to defeat Eagle Valley 14-5 in a Mountain League game.

“It took us a while to get going, but once we warmed up, we played like we usually do,” Grand Junction coach Kathaleen Recker said.

Grand Junction (4-0) was clinging to a 4-3 lead in the first six minutes before the defense tightened up.

Goalkeeper Holly Meer made 15 saves for the Tigers.

Kacie Jay scored four goals to lead Grand Junction. Brittany Wieseler, Emma LeFebre and Santana Martinez each scored two goals.
