Gregory returns to nationals
Sarah Gregory is going back to nationals.
The Colorado Mesa University skier was the top individual not on a United States Collegiate Ski Association national-qualifying team last weekend at the Western Regional.
Gregory placed sixth in the slalom (1:34.96) and eighth in the giant slalom (1:59.13). She will compete at the national championships March 11-13 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
“Sarah is a fantastic skier,” CMU coach Jack Harbottle said. “CMU is lucky to have her. She can ski with anybody. She’s one of the top skiers in the west.”
The women’s team finished fifth in slalom and eighth in giant slalom to finish fifth overall for the weekend.
Mesa teammate Kathleen Moore finished 37th (1:58.74) in slalom and 42nd (2:18.30) in giant slalom. Sierra Creen placed 39th (1:59.19) in slalom and 43rd (2:18.33) in giant slalom.
Steven Horbas led the men’s squad with a 25th place finish in the slalom (1:47.47) and was 31st in the giant slalom (2:01.36).
Micah Evonitz finished 18th in the giant slalom (1:55.18). Lucca Scariano placed 42nd (2:03.46).
The men’s team finished 13th in both slalom and giant slalom and 14th for the weekend.
Gregory placed ninth overall at nationals last year.
