Hawkins’ hat trick paces scoring binge for Palisade
Palisade’s Brett Hawkins scored three goals Saturday to lead the Bulldogs’ boys soccer team to an 8-2 victory over Bayfield.
Spencer Jackson, Conner Carey, Alex Gutierrez, Joe Talbott and Keino Davis each scored a goal for Palisade, which took 45 shots to Bayfield’s five. Robert Millican made two saves.
Heritage 6, Fruita Monument 0: The Wildcats fell behind 5-0 at halftime to Heritage and couldn’t manage to find the back of the net, falling to 0-2.
Adams City 2, Grand Junction 0: The Eagles broke a scoreless game with two goals in the second half.
Denver Science & Tech 2, Grand Valley 1: Alfredo Vicencio scored a first-half goal, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Alex Mengesha’s two goals for Science & Tech.
Kricket Adleman recorded seven kills in Grand Junction’s 16-25, 25-18, 15-6 victory over Central in the Demon Invitational in Glenwood Springs.
Alicia Copp had seven assists and Kacie Jay 14 digs for the Tigers, who also defeated Glenwood Springs in three games, 25-23, 17-25, 15-12. Katie Walker led the Tigers with five kills and Adleman and Jay each had 11 digs to help the Tigers go 3-1 in the tournament.
Central defeated Rangely 25-23, 25-23 in the second day of the tournament and finished 1-3. The Warriors dropped matches to Glenwood Springs and Lutheran as well as Grand Junction.
Fruita Monument’s three singles players didn’t lose a game in the Wildcats’ 7-0 victory over Rangeview.
Vinny Castellini, Mathew Harris and Tanner McKenzie all won their matches 6-0, 6-0, and after getting a forfeit at No. 2 doubles, the other three doubles teams only gave up one game apiece.
Vail Christian scored 22 unanswered points in the second half to defeat Plateau Valley 36-0 in each team’s season opener in Eagle.
Plateau Valley stayed close, trailing 14-0 at halftime before the Saints pulled away in the Class 1A 8-man game.
