Helena rips GJ Rockies
It was another tough night on the diamond for the Grand Junction Rockies.
Helena had 13 hits and took advantage of 10 walks by Grand Junction pitchers to blow out the Rockies 14-1 on Monday.
The Rockies were outscored 30-8 in getting swept in the three-game series.
Leading 4-1 after three, the Brewers turned the game into a rout with five runs in the fourth. They used four hits and two walks in the inning with Jose Pena and Taylor Brennan getting two RBI each.
A night after giving up eight extra base hits, the Rockies allowed a home run and three doubles, the homer coming from Jalen Harris, which was his first of the year.
Michael Ratterree scored three times and had two RBI, giving him 46 on the season.
Rockies starting pitcher Joel Payamps took the loss giving up three earned runs in two innings.
The Rockies scored their lone run in the second when Ryan Garvey tripled and scored on Miguel Dilone’s single to right. Dilone had two singles and was the lone Grand Junction player with more than one hit.
Dilone, who has been a bright spot for the Rockies during their dismal second half, was also named the Pioneer League Player of the Week on Monday.
After clinching a playoff spot by winning the first half title in the Pioneer League South, the Rockies have struggled in the second half. They are now 1-11 in their last 12 games and 4-15 overall in the second half of the season.
