High school honors Colorado Mesa assistant coach Kayli Changstrom
First year Colorado Mesa University assistant swimming and diving coach Kayli Changstrom is returning to Thompson Valley High School this weekend.
She isn’t returning to the position she left for Mesa. She’s going to be inducted into the Loveland school’s hall of fame.
“This is a big honor for me,” Changstrom said in a news release. “This honor was very unexpected as I am still so early in my coaching career.”
Changstrom coached Thompson Valley High School’s girls swimming team the past seven years, leading the Eagles to four straight state titles from 2010 to 2013 and was the Class 4A coach of the year two of the past three years. She had several swimmers win individual and relay state titles, some in record time.
Changstrom was a standout swimmer for Thompson Valley High School from 1999 to 2003, breaking eight school records, and she was a Wendy’s Heisman nominee as a senior.
She went on to swim at Washington State University, where she set a school record in the 400 individual medley and 800 freestyle relay, was a team captain for three years and finished her career in the university’s all-time top 10 in eight events.
