HITS Triathlon Series to return in 2014

After a successful debut two months ago, the HITS Triathlon Series is coming back to the Grand Valley.

HITS Triathlon Series announced registration is open for next year’s triathlon May 17-18, 2014 at Highline Lake State Park in Loma.

Participants can register at HitsTriathlonSeries.com.

“We have been looking for the right place for some time and we think we found it this year,” HITS Race Director Mark Wilson said in a release. “The Colorado community is so supportive of what we strive to accomplish and based on the athlete feedback, there are so many opportunities for this event to grow.”

Wilson told The Daily Sentinel more than 500 people participated in the 2013 race on May 19-20.

The HITS Triathlon Series offers five distance events — sprint, Olympic, half, full and open. Each distance is capped at 500 athletes.

“This reminds me of the way racing used to be — in gorgeous parks like this,” 2013 half marathon winner Tim Hola of Highlands Ranch said in a release. “These grassroots events make for a healthier sport and I love to be able to race in new places.”

Mary Gonzales of Grand Junction won the women’s full marathon and Macario Avalos of San Diego won the men’s full marathon.

HITS, Inc. is a special events management company that produces endurance sports events and hunter/jumper horse shows. It is based in upstate New York.
