Horbach wins two events for CMU cycling
Colorado Mesa’s Ariane Horbach won two events and finished second in another to lead the Colorado Mesa cycling team at the Oredigger Classic this past weekend in Golden.
Horbach won the women’s A criterium and the street sprints and finished second in the hills climb.
Jeff Sikes earned a win for Mesa in the men’s C street sprints. In the men’s A street sprints, Amrah Hubbard placed second, and Morgan Ryan was fourth for the Mavericks. In the men’s B street sprints, Mesa’s Stephen Cochran finished second.
Cochran was fifth in the men’s B criterium, and in the men’s A criterium, Cullen Easter was seventh, Spencer Oswalt eighth and Ryan ninth.
“We had good results for the first weekend of racing,” Mesa coach Patric Rostel said.
The CMU cycling team’s next meet will be at the University of Colorado this weekend.
The Colorado Mesa women’s golf team sits in 15th place out of 17 teams after the first day of the two-day Midwestern State Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas.
The Mavericks totaled 345 strokes at The Champions Course at Weeks Park. Dallas Baptist leads after the first round with a 301, five strokes ahead of West Texas A&M.
Loren Forney shot an 83, tied for 38th place, to lead the Mavericks, and Zoe Woodworth is tied for 53rd after carding an 85. Rounding out Mesa’s scores, Rachel Cavalier shot an 88, Sara Swaney an 89, and Taylor Walters a 94.
