Horse racing returns today to Montrose
MONTROSE — The Montrose County Fairgrounds today hosts the first of two days of horse racing with more than a dozen races scheduled.
The racing begins at 1 p.m. this afternoon with various lengths from 200-yard sprints to one-mile trials on the half-mile track.
Admission is free. Donations will be accepted with the purchase of a program.
There will be a $2 options table for people who want to place small bets. The options table is in accordance with Colorado gaming laws.
According to John Hawks of the Black Canyon Racing Association, the organized racing this year is the first at the Montrose fairgrounds since 1998.
