Mavericks picked third in RMAC

Colorado Mesa University is ranked third and four wrestlers received preseason honors from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The Mavericks, who placed fifth in the RMAC last season, received 24 votes from conference coaches to finish behind Grand Canyon and Adams State in the preseason team poll.

Jon Gappmaier, a 157-pound senior, Dylan Granard, a 165-pound junior, Nick Petersen, a 184-pound senior and Paco Retanez-Quinones, a 285-pound senior, made the preseason all-conference team.

 

Gymnastics

KidzPlex wins big in Aspen

 

The KidzPlex Level 4 team placed first at the Aspen Gymnastics Invitational, one of the largest meets in the state, with 16 teams and more than 300 gymnasts.

The Level 5 team was second to Alpha of Denver, which placed second at last year’s state championship meet.

Grace McCrum was second all-around in Level 4 Juniors and won the bars and tied for first on beam. Kaelyn Satterfield was third all-around and Nautica Rodriguez was fourth all-around. Jocelyn Canup tied for first on beam.

In Level 5 Juniors, Shaylee Wirthlin won the all-around title and placed first on beam, with Torri Clark fifth all-around.
