It’s Color Sunday time

Rust, amber, magenta, gold, brown, yellow, green, orange, maroon ... a new box of crayons?

Nope, it’s the range of hues you can expect to see during Color Sunday, Sept. 30, on Grand Mesa.

Here are a few of the events you won’t want to miss:

■ Powderhorn Mountain Resort will host its annual Color Weekend festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29–30, at the resort.

Lift rides will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days at $15 for adults and $8 for ages 10 and younger.

Honey Don’t will perform from 1–4 p.m. Saturday on the Sunset Deck, and Pineapple Crackers will play from 1–4 p.m. Sunday.

A disc golf tournament is set for Saturday and the Thigunawat 10K Trail Race to benefit Powderhorn Racing Club and Western Slope Center for Children, will be Sunday. The 10K begins at 9:30 a.m.

Sunday’s Color Sunday Adventure Challenge at Powderhorn also will feature 3K Team Adventure Run — obstacles, a mud slope, trail navigation and beaver ponds — at noon and a Kids Fun Obstacle Run to follow the 3K. Go to or call 245-3788 for information on the Adventure Challenge.

■ The Color Sunday turkey dinner and seventh annual arts and crafts fair hosted by the Plateau Valley 4-H Group will be at the Mesa Community Center in Mesa.

The arts and crafts fair is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and turkey with all the fixings will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost is $10 for adults, $8 for ages 60 and older and ages 5–17. Ages 4 and younger are free. Call 268-5680 for information.

■ Those heading up to Grand Mesa (or down), need to take note that because of the Lands End Hall Climb on Saturday and Sunday, Lands End Road, U.S. Forest Service Road 100, in the Grand Mesa National Forest will be closed from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Travelers seeking color weekend views should plan alternate routes or expect delays on that road on both days. Go to for information on the Lands End Hill Climb.
