Julian Yan started playing baseball when he was 6 years old. His father played baseball in Japan and Australia, Yan said.
“Everybody plays baseball (in the Dominican Republic),” Yan said. “I love baseball. I thank God for being in baseball.”
Yan said he had a good experience playing Rookie ball in Casper, Wyo., last year.
“My father was excited because I’m here playing baseball,” Yan said of the move to Grand Junction by the Rookie team. “We talk everyday. My dad knew about (my host family). If you want to be in major league, you have to do it. It’s good, even though I’m away from family. You can know new people.”
Yan said he can see the excitement in the people of Grand Junction.
“It’s great being here,” he said. “It’s a good opportunity to be at a new place.”
His main goal this season is to become a better player.
“I want to do the little things better,” Yan said.
