Junction girls roll to big win
Grand Junction never gave Coronado a chance.
The Tigers girls basketball team jumped out to an early lead en route to a 62-16 victory Friday in the Pueblo West Tournament.
Shafer Rubalcaba led Grand Junction (2-0) with 15 points. Tori Catlett added nine points.
Pueblo South 77, Central 19: The Class 4A No. 1-ranked Colts raced out to an early lead and never looked back.
Taryn Smith led Central (0-2) with seven points.
Swimming & Diving
Taylor Kidd and Marina Silva each won an event and placed in another to lead Grand Junction to second place in the Durango Invitational.
Durango won the meet with 607 points. Grand Junction was second with 535 and Fruita Monument took third with 406.
Kidd took first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 5.09 seconds and placed third in the 100 backstroke (1:06.03).
Silva placed first the 50 freestyle in 27.44 seconds and second in the 100 freestyle in 1:02.52.
Kathrine McConnell led Fruita Monument with a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:07.68) and took fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:09.53).
Fruita Monument had five pins in its seven individual match victories in a 37-27 victory over Class 2A defending state champion Paonia.
Eli Conrad, Matt Bishop, Clayton Mueller, Kaden Fife and Jacob Seely had pins for the Wildcats.
Isaac Rodriguez defeated Ty Coats 18-10 at 145 pounds and Aidan Woomer defeated Jorge Quinonez 8-2 at 160.
Josh Altman, Bo Pipher, Gunner Chesnik, Tyler Kendall, Morgan Rieder, Joel Simianaer and Tony Darling won for the Eagles.
