Junction track coach resigns, assistant hired as replacement
Grand Junction High School head track and field coach Darrell Simonton resigned and will be replaced by discus and shot put coach Sean Henry, Grand Junction athletic director Ned Pollert announced.
Simonton was the head coach for nine seasons, but will remain on the coaching staff as an assistant. He will coach the sprinters and sprint relays.
The Tigers won two regional championships, one Southwestern League title, 51 state placers, four individual state champions and set seven school records under Simonton.
