Lakewood ends Grand Junction’s playoff run

Lakewood scored two touchdowns off Grand Junction turnovers, including one late in the third quarter to defeat Grand Junction 36-24 in the Class 5A State Quarterfinals at Stocker Stadium.

The Lakewood Tigers recovered a mishandled snap on a punt then scored on a John Greer 11-yard run with 2:16 left in the third quarter to take a 29-24 lead.

Grand Junction had a chance to regain the lead for the third time when Jerreon Dennis ran into Lakewood territory, but the drive stalled with 3:31 left in the fourth.

Lakewood ran down the field and Greer scored on an 18-yard run with 1:16 left for a 12-point lead. Greer rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns.
