Lera places 13th at diving championships
Colorado Mesa freshman Brooke Lera took 13th place in the women’s 3-meter diving Wednesday at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships in Mansfield, Texas.
Lera scored 400.70 points on her dives. Diver Amanda Jennings placed 20th (319.05 points) in the same event.
Mesa sophomore Alejandro Hernandez swam the 200-yard individual medley 1 minute, 53.71 seconds to place 29th. He was seeded 29th in the event.
A former Division I player is coming to Colorado Mesa.
Patrick Wall has transferred from the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
“Pat is a very dynamic and versatile player that makes players around him better,” CMU coach Josh Pittman said in a release. “We will be able to use him in the midfield, up top or out wide. I’m very excited to see what he can do for us.”
The freshman from Tempe, Ariz., played forward and midfield for five games as a freshman at UAB. He was a member of the Sereno Soccer Club that won regional titles in 2007 and 2011. Wall helped Pinnacle High School win the 2010 Arizona state championship.
NAIA nationally-ranked Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University swept Colorado Mesa in Azusa, Calif.
The No. 4 men’s team defeated the Mavs 9-0.
The No. 5 women’s team won 9-0, but Mesa’s No. 1 doubles team of Kelleen and Kaitlin Sera had a match point before losing 9-8 (7-1).
The NAIA 19th-ranked Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) College men’s team defeated Mesa 8-1 earlier Wednesday. Mesa’s No. 2 singles player, Jordan Lyden, picked up the only victory, 6-4, 3-6, (10-6).
The No. 16-ranked Lewis-Clark State women defeated the Mavericks 7-2.
Mesa’s Shannen McNamara won 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 at No. 4 singles and Kristyn Wykert won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6.
