Congratulations, you’re getting an e-reader for Christmas.

Now, what to do with it?

Mesa County Libraries understands that electronic reading devices are a popular holiday gift. Last year, the library offered a number of classes teaching folks how to use them, and those sessions were a hit, said Bob Kretschman, spokesman for Mesa County Libraries.

“So many people who get e-readers don’t know how to use them or they don’t understand everything they can do with them. An e-reader can be intimidating especially if you’re not used to technology,” he said.

Mesa County Libraries continues to add books to its e-book, or digital collection, Kretschman said.

Instructional classes are offered at several Mesa County Library branches, starting Jan. 2. Call to register for the workshops at 243-4442 or sign up online at

If the instruction isn’t enough, people can stop in during any of the Tech Table Tuesday sessions, every Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the central branch, Fifth Street and Grand Avenue. (There won’t be a session on Christmas Eve.)

Furthermore, library patrons who require additional assistance either with learning new technology, or any other library or research questions, can access the “Book-a-Librarian” service. A librarian can offer one-on-one assistance for up to 30 minutes. To make an appointment, call Mesa County Libraries at 243-4442.
