Prep golfers continued to shoot low scores Wednesday in the early days of the season.

Jakob Rudosky of Montezuma-Cortez fired a 3-under-par 67 to win the Indian Invitational at Black Canyon Golf Club.

Two players came in at even-par 70, Rifle’s Triston Quigley and Aspen’s Clayton Crawford. The Skiers won the team championship by two strokes over Cortez, firing a 216. Fruita Monument, which had four players shoot in the 70s, was third at 223 and Grand Junction was fourth at 224. The Tigers also had four players shoot in the 70s.

The Wildcats’ Joey Saad shot a 73, as did Grand Junction’s Donny Kinnaman, to tie for sixth. The Tigers’ Garrett Fante carded a 74.

Fruita’s Will Berg shot a 75 along with Eric Jacobs, and Michael Harris shot a 76.

“There’s some good golf being played out there right now,” Fruita coach Dave Fox said. “At Bookcliff, to be in the top 10, you had to shoot 75. I just think these kids work at it, a lot of them play a lot and have had good instruction.

“I’m very pleased with the boys, they did a good job today. It’s early and you want to peak in September and October.”

Garrett Harrison of Grand Junction also shot in the 70s, turning in a 77, and Central’s Preston Grandbouche shot a 79. The Warriors finished eighth at 244, with Palisade ninth at 254 with a young lineup. Austen Simpson-Greco and Cory McIlveen led the Bulldogs, each shooting 84.

The golfers play today at The Bridges in Montrose.
