MacAskill and Tucker carry Palisade volleyball team to victory
Alexandra MacAskill had 15 kills and Emily Tucker added 13 kills and six aces Saturday to help Palisade earn a 25-23, 26-28, 25-11, 25-20 Class 4A Western Slope League victory at Battle Mountain. Reece Norton had 32 assists, Reannon Baskin added three blocks and Naline Stephens chipped in 26 digs for the Bulldogs (2-1, 2-0 4A WSL).
n Fruita Monument won both of its matches at the Regis Jam Tournament, sweeping Thomas Jefferson 25-13, 25-17, 25-11 before its 17-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21 victory over Legend. The Wildcats (5-1) won three of their four tournament matches.
n Lauren Davey had 27 kills in four matches for Delta to go with a 38-dig performance from Harlee Roberts, helping the Panthers open the season with a third-place finish in the Gunnison Invitational. The Panthers went 3-1, beating Crested Butte 25-18, 25-6 in the third-place match. Abby Carlson had 70 assists and Lexi Quinn had a combined 20 kills in the four matches, with included wins over Alamosa and Salida but a loss to Gunnison.
Grand Junction earned a second straight convincing road win, beating Brighton 4-0. Abram Sanchez scored two goals, and Jake Chaffetz and Enrique Hernandez chipped in one goal apiece for the Tigers (2-0).
Central won twice at the Don McCall Tournament in Castle Rock, defeating Vista Ridge 12-6 and Ponderosa 11-1. Jaeda Garcia went 3 for 4 in the first game and Sierra Dunham launched a home run in the second game.
n Fruita Monument dropped two games at the Don McCall Tournament. The Wildcats fell 14-7 in the first game against Lamar, then lost via a walk-off hit against Pueblo Centennial 10-9. In the second game, only half of the runs Fruita gave up were earned, and Shay Cutshall threw a complete game.
