Martinez is player of year

Fruita Monument senior Peter Martinez was selected the Southwestern League player of the year after leading the league with 13 goals.

Martinez was the Wildcats’ lone first-team selection, but teammates Matt Emerson, Avery Kuper, Scott Mende and Noah Nelson made the second team.

Central’s Cory Rhodes and Brady Carroll made the first team. Teammates Conor Beach and Miguel Rodriguez made the second team. Doug Beach is the league coach of the year.

Andrew Murdock of Grand Junction made the first team with Montrose’s Eliseo Gomez, Hector Almanza, Jorge Rojas ans Nick Hansen made the first team with four players from Durango.

Grand Junction’s Hill Bonin, and Montrose’s Zach Nadiak made the second team.
