Mavericks claim RMAC title
Colorado Mesa’s baseball team clinched its sixth RMAC regular-season championship in the past nine seasons, but its first since 2009, with a 14-10 win at Colorado School of Mines.
Colton Little, Braden Box and Jeff Popick each went 3 for 3 and Popick and Dustin Fackrell drove in three runs each for the Mavericks (37-10, 31-6 RMAC), who won their ninth straight game. Mesa has won 25 of its past 28 games overall.
Nolan Snell allowed six runs on eight hits through five innings, getting relief help from Tim Moore, Cody Lahman and Kris Carlson. Mesa led 12-6 after five innings, but the Orediggers rallied, scoring three in the seventh.
Mesa completed a doublheader sweep with an 8-1 victory in the second game.
Jared Christensen limited Mines to one run on four hits and struck out seven in six innings. Popick was 3 for 4 with a three-run home run and four RBI.
The teams have a doubleheader Saturday to wrap up the regular season. Mesa will be the No. 1 seed in next week’s RMAC tournament in Pueblo.
