Mavericks eliminated in RMAC tournament

Colorado Mesa was unable to bounce back from its first loss in the RMAC tournament and was eliminated in a 7-5 loss to New Mexico Highlands at Rawlings Field in Pueblo.

Highlands scored five runs in the eighth inning to break open a 2-2 game and withstood a late Mesa rally.

The Mavericks (39-14) scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth and had two runners on base when Highlands got the final out on a groundout.

Dylan Evans (4-3) allowed six runs (three earned) on five hits in 4 1/3 innings of relief in the loss. Starter Garrett Carpenter gave up one run on one hit and struck out six in three innings.

Colton Schoelkopf was 2 for 3 with one RBI and Jeff Popick was 2 for 4 with one RBI.
