Mavericks shut out S.D. Mines

Colorado Mesa keeper Micah Conrads did not make a save Sunday in 90 minutes of soccer.

Then again, he didn’t have to — the Mavericks did not allow a shot in their 3-0 victory over South Dakota Mines at Walker Field. The Hardrockers (0-3) were overmatched by the Mavericks (2-2), who took 24 shots, 11 on goal.

After playing to a scoreless draw in the first half, the Mavericks used their heads to score two quick goals in the second.

Austin Jex scored his first goal on a header off a corner kick from Michael Bagheri, with Alan Hernandez sending a crossing pass to Jex at the 57:11 mark.

Just more than three minutes later, Marco Escobar sent a crossing pass to Bagheri, who then sent a pass to Patrick LaPorta for another header and a 2-0 lead.

Late in the game, Spencer Jackson took a centering pass from Kevin Escobar for his first goal of the season.

Women’s Soccer

Angelo State scored two first-half goals and blanked Colorado Mesa 2-0 in San Angelo, Texas.

The Mavericks (1-3) took only two shots in the first half, but they got more aggressive down two goals, attempting five shots in the second half.
