Mavs cruise to easy women’s lacrosse win

Fourteen players scored at least one goal to lead Colorado Mesa to an 18-4 victory over Rockhurst (Mo.) University in RMAC women’s lacrosse Thursday in Kansas City, Mo.

Ashley Eickhoff, Kacie Jay, Zoe Aldous and Rachel Lyall each scored two goals. Lexie Chavez had one goal and six assists. Allie Henderson scored one goal and had four assists.

CMU goalie Lauren Wells made four saves in the first half and Jillian Pfeifer made one save in the second half.

The Mavericks (6-4, 1-1 RMAC) scored the first seven goals of the game and led 12-2 at halftime. Mesa outscored the Hawks 6-2 in the second half.

Colorado Mesa played well defensively, limiting the Hawks (0-8, 0-4) to four goals on 10 shots, nine on goal.

Mesa plays tonight at McKendree (Ill.) University, then Sunday at RMAC leader Lindenwood (Mo.) University.


Ariane Horbach led the Colorado Mesa women’s cycling team to another solid performance last weekend at the Air Force Academy.

The freshman from Germany extended her winning streak to nine after winning all three events. She won the women’s A criterium and road race, then joined Lexie Millard, Ariana Dittmer and Samantha Parker to win the women’s team trial.

Millard placed sixth and Dittmer was seventh in the women’s A road race.

Horbach leads the women’s A conference standings.

The men’s team finished second in the men’s A and B time trials and had three top-10 finishes in the A criterium.

Cullen Easter was fourth, Spencer Oswald was fifth, and Morgan Ryan placed sixth.

The Mavericks also took fifth place in the Collegiate BMX Championships last weekend in DeSoto, Texas.

Bailey Case led the women, placing 12th. Zach Bryant finished 25th to lead the men.
