Mavs shut out in NCAA baseball regional
Colorado Mesa University failed to score a run in a 2-0 loss to New Mexico Highlands in the NCAA Central Region tournament in Mankato, Minn.
Highlands starter Jason Sirak limited the Mavericks to six hits and one walk in a complete-game effort.
Mesa starter Jared Christensen pitched well enough to win, allowing two runs on six hits and struck out seven in eight innings. He was chosen the Daktronics Central Region Pitcher of the Year earlier in the day, as voted on by the sports information directors throughout the region.
The Mavericks play an elimination game Friday afternoon.
