Men’s soccer: No. 7 St. Edwards nips Mavericks

Roy Abergil’s fourth goal of the season wasn’t enough for No. 21 Colorado Mesa on Sunday, as the Mavericks lost 2-1 to seventh-ranked St. Edward’s in San Antonio, Texas.

After tying St. Mary’s on Friday, the Mavericks (1-1-2) gave up one goal in each half to St. Edward’s (4-0) and got within one when Abergil took a cross from Kevin Del Mazo for a one-timer late in the second half.

With only seven minutes to play, though, CMU couldn’t generate a chance for the tying goal.

Each team took only eight shots in the defensive game, Mesa getting three on goal and the Hilltoppers four. CMU keeper Briley Guarneri made two saves.
