Men’s, women’s champs return for Highline Hustle
They enjoyed the Highline Hustle so much they decided to return.
Men’s overall champion Kevin Koch and women’s overall champion Mandy Harter are registered to compete in the eighth annual sprint triathlon at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Highline Lake State Park.
The Highline Hustle has taken place since 2005.
Participants are expected to check in between 6 and 7 in the morning.
There are 165 individuals (87 males, 78 females) and 10 teams registered for the event. Registration is closed.
The sprint triathlon is a 500-meter swim, 16-mile bike ride and 3.3-mile run.
The swim is out and back, across Highline Lake as usual, and the bike course is the same. The trail for the run is new this year, race organizer Shon Birch said. It is along the beach near the boat parking lot and finishes across the dam.
Koch last year won the men’s overall for the fourth time in his six years in the event, clocking in at 1 hour, 9 minutes, 46 seconds. Stephen Hiatt took second in 1:15:07.
Harter easily won the women’s race in 1:18:22 last year. Shelly Steadman took second in 1:26:41.
There were 198 participants last year (95 male, 103 female).
