Mesa softball loses in extra innings

Fort Lewis College scored one run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch to defeat the Colorado Mesa softball team 4-3 in the RMAC tournament semifinals in Golden.

The first two Fort Lewis batters singled. One out later, Mesa intentionally walked the next batter to load the bases. The leadoff batter scored on a wild pitch.

Courtney Maihi took the loss. She allowed two runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings of relief. Ashley Pulido gave up two runs on three hits in two innings.

The Mavericks (26-21) scored one run in the sixth inning on a Maihi home run to tie the game 3-3. Maihi was 2 for 3 with two RBI.

Mesa plays Colorado Christian in an elimination game at 11 a.m. Saturday. The winner plays Fort Lewis, but must win twice to win the RMAC tournament title.
