Mesa State tennis team showered with awards

The Mesa State College men’s and women’s tennis teams had successful seasons and did it with sportsmanship.

The Mavericks, who qualified for the NCAA Division II regionals in both men’s and women’s tennis, were rewarded for their play. The women won the RMAC regular season title and hosted a regional tournament.

Junior Nick Provenza of Grand Junction and senior Renee Demianeu of Athena, Ore., were selected as the NCAA Division II Central Region Arthur Ashe award winners.

The Arthur Ashe Award is given to a men’s and women’s player who best exemplifies sportsmanship and leadership in each of the eight regions.

Mesa State’s Kaitlan Sera was selected the Central Region Rookie of the Year and Mesa State coach Dan MacDonald was the Central Region women’s coach of the year.
