Mesa women’s tennis team clinches RMAC

The Mesa State College women’s tennis team clinched the RMAC regular season title Saturday with a 6-3 victory at Metro State College.

The Mavericks (16-3, 7-0 RMAC) wrapped up the title with one more RMAC dual left before the conference tournament, their third RMAC title in the past five years.

The Mesa men (10-7, 3-4) lost 7-2 to Metro State and 9-0 to UC-San Diego in a nonconference dual.

The Mesa women swept the doubles matches and won three singles matches against the Roadrunners.

Kate Lowder defeated Mitra Hirad 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and the Sera twins were each victorious in singles.

Nick Provenza captured the Mavericks’ only victory in singles against Metro State, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3, and teamed up with Jordan Chomko to win at No. 1 doubles.

The men play Sonoma State at 10 a.m. today in Denver. The Mavericks have rescheduled a dual with Colorado Christian for April 23 in Lakewood, the day before the RMAC championships begin .
