Mesa’s Bingaman finishes fifth in Arizona
Colorado Mesa senior Brandon Bingaman shot a third-round 72 on Tuesday to finish fifth in the Mustang Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament in Palm Valley, Ariz.
Bingaman finished at 215, four strokes behind Cameron University’s Corey Bounds’ 211. Bingaman was consistent, shooting 71 in the first round and following it with consecutive par rounds of 72.
The Mavericks finished sixth as a team, with Sean Robbins placing ninth after a final-round 71, giving him 219 strokes.
Adam Griffith (228) tied for 26th, Kyle Roll (235) placed 37th and Christopher Aiken (242) tied for 46th for the Mavericks. Western New Mexico’s Tom Neve recorded a hole-in-one on No. 16, using a 4 iron from 197 yards out.
Tuesday was the Mavs’ best round as a team, shooting 292, cutting eight strokes off their second round and 10 off the opening round.
Cameron led from the start, finishing the tournament at 863. Oklahoma Baptist and host Western New Mexico tied for second at 887. CU-Colorado Springs was fourth at 888.
The Colorado Mesa women finished 18th in the Grand Canyon Invitational at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Michelle Stripp tied for 57th with a 170 after a second-round 83.
Zoe Woodworth tied for 77th at 179, Torrie Sauer and Audrey Meyer tied for 84th at 193 and Summer Igo was 86th at 195.
Grand Canyon won its own invitational with a 619, and the Lopes’ Eryn Olson won the individual title with a 148.
