Miller lifts Central past Cortez in soccer
Matt Miller netted five goals as Central High School routed Montezuma-Cortez 7-1 in Southwestern League boys soccer Saturday.
Jacob Sebesta and Shane Snyder each added a first-half goal as the Warriors (2-2-1 SWL) led 3-1 at the half.
Fruita Monument 4, Durango 1: Wesley Padgett scored two goals as Fruita Monument defeated Durango 4-1 in an SWL game. Noah Nelson and Andrew Bryceland each added a goal for the Wildcats (4-1 SWL).
Summit 2, Palisade 1: Palisade’s Joe Talbott tied the game 1-1 at the half with an assist by Marques Combs. Palisade goalkeeper Conner Carey stopped two Summit penalty kicks.
Morgan Thieszen had 10 kills, three solo blocks and one block assist as Palisade defeated Battle Mountain 29-27, 25-13, 25-20 in a Western Slope League match. Shannon Rhodes added 26 assists for the Bulldogs (7-5, 4-1).
Montezuma-Cortez 3, Central 2: Nichole McIvor and Taylor Head each had 12 kills for Central, but Montezuma-Cortez turned back the Warriors 25-16, 23-25, 25-5, 20-25, 15-12 in an SWL match. Robbi Termentozzi had 11 kills, three aces, and 18 digs, while Rayleigh Norton had 28 assists for Central (6-8, 1-4).
Palisade took advantage of 25 walks from Montezuma-Cortez to sweep a nonleague doubleheader, winning 14-0 and 26-11.
Danica DeLahoz threw a three-hit shutout in the opener and hit two home runs.
Christian Ramirez threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for another TD to lead Steamboat Springs to a 47-7 win over Montezuma-Cortez.
Mancos 46, Plateau Valley 0: Mancos scored 20 points in each of the first two quarters in the Class A-8 Western Conference win.
