Miller lifts Warriors to victory
Central High School’s Matt Miller scored two goals as the Warriors defeated Thompson Valley 3-1 in nonleague boys soccer Saturday in Loveland.
Central fell behind 1-0, but Miller tied the game with a goal, and Jake Sabesta put the Warriors in the lead with his goal in the 39th minute.
Central goalkeeper Antonio Tarin had six saves.
Valor Christian 8, Grand Junction 2: Valor Christian scored four goals in each half of the nonleague match.
Ryan Gibb and Josh Murdock each scored for the Tigers.
Vail Christian’s Mac Cooper opened the game up with a 80-yard touchdown run as the Saints rolled to a 36-8 victory over Plateau Valley in nonconference, eight-man football.
Vail Christian quarterback Austin Ellsworth threw three touchdown passes.
Plateau Valley freshman Arlis Hernandez scored on a five-yard run on the last play of the game to put the Cowboys on the board.
Grand Junction won both of its matches and Rifle split a pair at the 16-team Demon Invitational volleyball tournament hosted by Glenwood Springs High School.
Grand Junction defeated Steamboat Springs 25-22, 25-13, then beat the Glenwood Springs junior varsity 25-13, 25-13.
Lutheran High School of Parker beat Rifle 25-9, 25-13, but the Bears bounced back to beat Nucla 19-25, 25-16, 15-13.
The Grand Junction boys team placed first, and its girls team placed second Friday in the Delta Invitational cross country meet.
