Montrose girls win tourney; Rifle’s Walters claims medalist honor

Four Montrose players finished in the top seven as the Indians won the Grand Valley Invitational girls golf tournament Monday at Battlement Mesa Golf Course.

Kala Keltz led the way for Montrose, carding an 84 to finish second to Rifle’s Taylor Walters, who shot an 81. The Indians’ Madison Gill tied for third with a 91, and Chelsea Peterson was fifth with a 94, giving Montrose a team score of 269.

Rifle finished second with 304 strokes and got a 91 from Alyx Carter.

Palisade was third with a 308, paced by a 98 from Kate Shuman, who tied for eighth.
