Montrose seeded 14th at 4A state softball
Montrose High School was given the 14th seed in the 16-team field and will play third-seeded Pueblo South on Friday in the first round of the Class 4A state softball tournament.
The teams will play at 12:15 p.m. at Aurora Sports Park, 18601 E. Sports Park Drive in Aurora. General admission tickets cost $8 for adults, $6 for K–12 students and senior citizens. Parking is free at the site.
The Indians (16-6) finished second in their regional Saturday. After losing 15-6 in its regional opener to Falcon, Montrose won a playback game 5-0 over Cheyenne Mountain. That brought a rematch against Falcon for second place and the region’s second state berth, and the Indians won 3-2.
Pueblo South (16-5) was the state’s sixth seed going into the regionals. The Colts won their games 2-1 and 13-3 over Woodland Park and Palmer Ridge, respectively, to win the regional title.
The winner of Friday’s game will advance to a 2:30 p.m. quarterfinal against the winner of the game between No. 6 Wheat Ridge (18-3-1) and No. 11 Thompson Valley (15-6).
The semifinals and finals are Saturday, with the title game at 1:45 p.m.
The tournament’s No. 1 seed is Pueblo East (20-0-1). Niwot (20-1) received the second seed.
