Montrose tied for 5th in Class 4A golf tourney

Montrose’s Kala Keltz shot a 74 during the first round of the Class 4A girls golf state championships at Boomerang Golf Link in Greeley on Monday and is in fifth place heading into the final round today.

Montrose is tied for fifth place with Cheyenne Mountain at 257 strokes. Regis is in first with 225. Rifle is in seventh, shooting a 258.

Rifle’s Taylor Walters shot a 77 and is tied for ninth.

■ In the Class 5A state championships, Fruita Monument’s Jessica Sinner shot an 82 and is in a tie for 27th.

Central’s Brittany Hoppe shot an 89 and is tied for 47th.

“It was tough conditions,” Central coach Casey Doss said. “The rough was thick, and the greens were fast, and if you got off on your drives you were sitting in some pretty thick rough.”

Arapahoe leads the Class 5A team standings with a 220.
