Monument Major Boys shut out in Little League regionals
Texas West McAllister Park defeated the Monument Major Boys, 10-0, in four innings in the first game of the Little League Southwest Regional Tournament on Saturday in Waco, Texas.
Zach Couts started for Monument and allowed five runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Derek Shaver replaced Couts and allowed five more runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Monument plays Oklahoma at 1 p.m. today before playing Texas East at 5 p.m. on Monday in pool play.
Monument, which must win both remaining games to avoid elimination, had two errors and hit into three double plays.
“I don’t know if it was the big stage or we got here late Tuesday night and this was the first game,” Monument coach Sean Kreidler said, “but no excuses. They were a very good team. But they didn’t get our best by any stretch.”
Zach Rush, Canon Kreidler, Sam Flynn, and Bryce Wilkerson all had a hit for Monument, which trailed 5-0 after the first inning.
“We didn’t play our best,” Kreidler said, “with errors and mistakes and balls we didn’t catch.”
