Monument 10-11 boys win state title in Frisco
North Boulder defeated Monument Little League once in the Little League 10-11 boys state baseball tournament, but it couldn’t do it twice.
Monument beat North Boulder on Wednesday for the second straight day, 12-5, to win the state title in Frisco.
It was the second consecutive state title for a majority of the Monument players, who won a state 9-10 A division last year. There is no regional tournament for the 10-11 division.
“We felt if we can hit the ball like we can, we’d win,” Monument coach Sean Kreidler said.
The win has the team already thinking about next year and a run at the Little League World Series in the Major boys (age 11-12) division.
Jax Nourse pitched 42⁄3 innings for the victory and Derek Shaver closed it out. Canon Kriedler was 3 for 3.
Tyler Boggs hit a leadoff home run in the top of the first inning to jump-start the offense, but North Boulder rallied to take a 4-3 lead.
Zach Coutts hit a two-run home run for a 5-4 lead, then Shaver hit a three-run home run to give Monument an 8-4 lead in the fifth.
The teams endured a brief rain delay in the sixth inning, but Monument held on for the victory.
