OF Berggren promoted from GJ Rockies to Tri-City
Two days before their season opener, the Grand Junction Rockies had a roster move Saturday.
Jarod Berggren, an outfielder from Erie, was promoted to Class A Tri-City and left for Pasco, Wash., this morning.
Grand Junction opens the season at 7 p.m. Monday at Ogden, Utah, for a three-game series, then heads to Idaho Falls, Idaho, for two games. The Rockies open at home at 7:05 p.m. on June 23 at Suplizio Field.
Berggren, who started in center field and went 1 for 3 in the Rockies’ exhibition game last week against the Greeley Grays, was one of seven outfielders on Grand Junction’s roster.
On Friday, the club added outfielder Max White, Colorado’s second-round draft pick this year, as well as first baseman Correlle Prime, the club’s 12th-round pick.
Grand Junction also has Colorado’s top draft pick, center fielder David Dahl.
Berggren was the Rockies’ 32nd-round draft pick last year and opened the season in Casper, playing 18 games and hitting .271. In only three games at Tri-City in the Northwest League, Berggren went 2 for 10.
During his final year at the University of Northern Colorado, Berggren hit .360 with seven home runs and 60 RBI. His sophomore season, he hit .392 and had a 41-game hitting streak. In 2006, he helped Broomfield win a state championship.
