Offense leads Palisade Major boys to win at state

The Palisade Major boys came out swinging in the opening game of the Little League state tournament Thursday.

The team had 17 hits to beat Steamboat Springs 9-2 in Cherry Creek.

“That’s exceptional in my book,” coach Mike Seriani said about his team’s hitting.

Matt Seriani, Nicolas White and Dan McLean all went 4 for 4 in the win. Max Noland and Russ Bleyle both went 3 for 4.

Palisade plays North Boulder today at 5:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to the championship of the four-team double elimination tournament.

9-10 boys

Monument beat North Boulder 11-8 to open their state tournament in Arvada.

Monument trailed 8-7 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but won on a walk-off grand slam by Kaden King. The team plays Ken Caryl today at 6 p.m. The winner will play in a championship game Sunday.

Senior boys

Monument struggled offensively and lost 9-3 to CYRA to open the state tournament.

Coach Dan Sherrill said the team had some “first-game jitters” but played well after allowing six runs in the first three innings. Dalton Caleman went 2 for 4 with two doubles.

Monument plays Saturday morning against the loser of today’s game between CYRA and Platte Canyon.
