Orchard Mesa Major girls use big inning to top Fruita

The Orchard Mesa Major girls all-star team advanced to Monday’s championship game with a 14-0 victory over Fruita on Saturday at Fruita Little League.

Cameron Sanchez highlighted a 10-run fourth inning with a two-run home run, spurring Orchard Mesa to the win.

Megan Rubalcaba pitched a one-hitter for Orchard Mesa, which will play the winner of today’s Grand Mesa-Fruita game for the District 1 tournament title.

9-10 Boys A: At Monument Little League, Monument edged Cortez 5-4, Montrose defeated Orchard Mesa 23-5, Colorado River Valley beat Three Rivers 10-5 and Fruita routed Ignacio 37-5.

9-10 Boys B: At Fruita Little League, Montrose beat Fruita 13-3, Monument topped Three Rivers No. 2 18-7, Grand Mesa edged Orchard Mesa 14-12 and Three Rivers No. 1 defeated Colorado River Valley 14-4.

9-10 Girls: At Monument Little League, Grand Mesa blanked Fruita 27-0.

11-year-old Boys: At Monument Little League, Monument topped Fruita 14-4, Montrose defeated Palisade 4-1 and Durango eliminated Orchard Mesa 11-4.

Junior Boys: At Rifle and Silt, Durango edged Colorado River Valley 10-9, Three Rivers beat Orchard Mesa 12-2 and Grand Mesa roughed up Ignacio 19-3.
