Palisade, ‘Cats make state soccer field
Palisade’s big 1-0 win over Glenwood Springs last week helped catapult the Bulldogs into the Class 4A girls soccer playoffs.
Seeds were announced by the Colorado High School Activities Association on Sunday, and Palisade will go in as the 18th seed.
The higher seeds will host first-round games in all classifications.
A total of four Western Slope teams made the 32-team Class 4A playoff field, with all first-round games scheduled for Wednesday.
Montrose (12-3) won the Class 5A/4A Southwestern League title and earned a seventh seed. The Indians play Weld Central (13-1-1), the 26th seed.
Palisade (11-4) plays at 15th-seeded Windsor (13-2). Durango (7-4-2) goes in as the 17th seed and will play 16th-seeded Ponderosa (8-6-1).
Battle Mountain (14-1), which won the Class 4A Western Slope League title, was given the No. 4 seed, and will host Denver South (8-7).
The Huskies’ only loss of the season came to Glenwood Springs.
All winners from Wednesday’s games will play on Saturday. The third round is May 14.
In Class 5A, Fruita Monument (8-7-1) earned the only playoff berth from the Western Slope.
The Wildcats finished second to Montrose in the league and will go in as a 25th seed, playing at No. 8 Columbine (12-3) on Tuesday.
Winners advance to the second round on Friday.
In Class 3A, a three Garfield County teams earned berths to postseason.
Coal Ridge (14-1) will go in as the sixth seed and will face The Pinnacle (12-3), a Denver suburb school. The Titans’ only loss came late in the season to Battle Mountain, 4-2.
All Class 3A first-round games are on Friday with second-round games set for Saturday.
Grand Valley (13-2) is the 11th seed and will host Front Range Christian (9-3-3) from Littleton. The Cardinals’ only league loss came to Coal Ridge, 3-1 early in the season. The two teams will meet in the second round if they both win on Friday.
Roaring Fork (12-2-1) is the 20th seed and will travel to 13th-seeded Kent Denver (8-5-1).
Basalt (5-7-1) also made the playoffs as the 30th seed.
Semifinals for all classifications are May 17. The title game for 4A and 5A is May 21, with the 3A title game May 20.
