Kachin powers Palisade’s win

Audrey Rose Kachin had a foot in each of Palisade’s first four goals Wednesday as the Bulldogs beat Summit 6-0 in a Class 4A Western Slope League girls soccer game.

Kachin scored unassisted 10 minutes into the contest, then assisted 20 minutes later on Natalie Combs’ goal and added a goal in the 37th minute to give Palisade a 3-0 halftime lead. Kachin then scored the first goal of the second half for her second hat trick of the season.

“Audrey Rose showed up, and that’s what we needed,” said Bulldogs coach Raina Sorensen, whose squad improved to 9-3, 8-2 in the league.

Cruz Maestas scored the game’s final two goals, while Palisade goalie Katie Dunn made two saves for the shutout.

Wildcats breeze past Montrose

 

Fruita Monument won every match in straight sets as the Wildcats defeated Montrose 7-0 in Southwestern League girls tennis action Wednesday.

Fruita seniors Kayla Lyon and Kelsi Barnett teamed at No. 4 doubles for the easiest win of the dual, 6-1, 6-0, and Lyric Fortson got pushed by Montrose’s Alyssa Arellano but prevailed 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.

The Wildcats improved to 6-2, 1-1.
