Palisade volleyball defeats GJ
Emily Tucker had 13 kills and 15 digs and Reannon Baskin added 10 kills for the Palisade High School volleyball team, which rallied Saturday night for a 22-25, 25-12, 23-25, 25-22, 15-10 victory over Grand Junction during a nonleague match in Palisade.
Abby Thiessen added 26 digs to go with a five-ace performance from Alex MacAskill for Palisade (5-4). Grand Junction (5-4) lost its fourth straight match.
Paonia 3, North Park 0: The Eagles won 25-11, 25-13, 25-20, getting 12 kills from McKenna Hartigan.
Montrose senior Ian Meek won the Mountaineer Cowboy Invitational title, posting a winning time of 16 minutes, 13.16 seconds. Teammate Evan Graff was third in 16:37.24, with Sean Graff fifth in 17:22.92.
Eagle Valley Invitational: Connor Dillon’s fourth-place time of 17:19.2 led Palisade in Gypsum. Rifle’s Sarah Wagler was the top area girls finisher, taking sixth in 17:39.8.
Glenwood Springs held off a comeback attempt from Fruita Monument en route to a 2-1 nonleague victory in Glenwood. The Wildcats (3-3) scored in the final 10 minutes but couldn’t finish the comeback.
Summit 5, Palisade 0: The Tigers (3-2, 1-1 4A Western Slope League) led the Bulldogs (0-6, 0-4) by five goals at halftime.
